Rehabilitation for older adults, brought to the door

myNeuro works with older Australians whose strength, balance or mobility is changing. We visit homes, retirement living and residential aged care facilities across Melbourne, and we bring rehabilitation equipment with us.

Age is not a reason to stop rehabilitating. Strength and balance can improve well into later life, and much of what gets dismissed as “just getting older” is actually deconditioning. This is something that responds well to the right physiotherapy intervention. Our role is to carry out a comprehensive assessment to understand why mobility and transfers has become difficult, then build a personalised rehabilitation plan to address those causes and improve functional capacity.

The expertise we provide for senior patients

    01

    Falls prevention and balance retraining

A comprehensive falls risk assessment, followed by progressive balance and strength interventions. Physiotherapy that genuinely challenges balance has strong evidence behind it for reducing falls in older adults, and we increase that challenge as your capacity improves.

    02

    Strength and reconditioning

Progressive resistance training targets the muscle loss that makes getting in and out of bed, sitting to standing, and walking around the home harder than they should be. Our interventions are built around the specific activities you find difficult, strengthening the muscles involved to help you stay as independent as possible.

    03

    Walking and mobility retraining

Our physiotherapists identify the underlying cause of your mobility difficulties and deliver targeted gait retraining, strengthening, and balance interventions to restore your functional capacity and help you move safely through your own home.

    04

    Transfer-specific retraining

Getting out of bed, standing up from a chair, on and off the toilet, in and out of the shower and car. Transfers play a part of everyday living, and our physiotherapists are experts at retraining movement and helping improve your functional capacity.

    05

    Rehabilitation inside residential aged care

Individual 1-hour physiotherapy sessions delivered on site for aged-care residents to address their unique challenges and progress mobility. We also work alongside facility staff and family to help progress the resident, and provide carer training if required.

    06

    Mobility and transfer equipment prescription

Assessment and prescription of walking aids, transfer devices and other mobility equipment, matched to the person and the home rather than the catalogue.

    07

    Carer and family education

Practical training for the people providing day-to-day support, covering transfers, mobility assistance, safe support techniques and how to carry the programme through between our visits.

    Why people choose myNeuro

Ageing rehabilitation is what we do

myNeuro was built around neurological and ageing rehabilitation, not general physiotherapy. That focus shows in how we perform our comprehensive assessment and create our personalised rehabilitation plans.

We come to the home, and to the facility

Getting an older person to an appointment is often harder than the appointment. We remove that entirely, and we assess the home itself as part of the clinical picture.

Families are part of the plan

Family and carers are welcome in every session, and we can provide training to assist with transfers and mobility.

Why mobility changes with age, and what can be done

Muscle mass and power decline steadily from middle age, and the decline accelerates with inactivity, illness and hospital stays. Balance systems change too. The result is a slow narrowing of what feels safe, which reduces activity, which accelerates the decline again.

That loop is the target. Breaking it usually means loading muscles properly rather than gently, challenging balance in a controlled way rather than avoiding it, and rebuilding confidence alongside capacity. How much improvement is possible varies considerably from person to person, and depends on health status, starting point and what else is going on. Your physiotherapist can give you a realistic view after assessment.

    Fees and funding

The initial consultation is free. Our rates are in accordance with regulatory standards, with no hidden fees and no travel fee within our service area.

Older adults commonly access physiotherapy through the Support at Home programme, NDIS funding or private payment. Eligibility is determined by the relevant scheme rather than by us. We will talk you through how access usually works and can liaise with your coordinator or case manager.

    Frequently asked questions

Is physiotherapy worthwhile at 85 or 90?
Yes. Strength and balance can improve in later life, and improvements in transfers or walking can make a large practical difference in everyday activities and improve quality of life.
Do you visit residential aged care facilities?

Yes. We provide individual physiotherapy inside aged-care facilities across Melbourne, working alongside facility staff and family.

    Do we need a referral?

No referral is needed to contact us. Families, carers, facility staff and coordinators can all get in touch directly. Some funding routes involve their own paperwork, and we will tell you what is required for yours.

How much does it cost, and is there a travel fee?

The initial over the phone consultation is free. Rates are in accordance with regulatory standards with no hidden fees, and there is no travel fee within our service area. We confirm the applicable rate before any paid appointment.

    How often are visits needed?

It depends on goals and stage. Some people need an intensive block after a fall or hospital stay, others a lower frequency to maintain progress. Frequency is set at assessment and reviewed as things change.

Do you bring equipment, and do we need space?

We bring the rehabilitation equipment required. A normal lounge room, bedroom or hallway is almost always enough, and using the real space is part of the point.
