Neurological Rehabilitation Expertise
The first weeks at home matter
Typically people after a hospital stay experience deconditioning, muscle weakness and changes to their mobility, particularly for older adults who have experienced prolonged bedrest. People frequently come home weaker than the problem that put them there. The weeks immediately after discharge are when that lost function is most readily rebuilt. myNeuro closes that gap by delivering rehabilitation at home to help improve global strength, functional capacity and mobility.
The expertise we provide after hospitalisation
Early post-discharge assessment
A comprehensive assessment to identify your presentation following a hospital stay, whether that's deconditioning from a prolonged admission or reduced functional capacity following surgery.
Post-operative rehabilitation
Rehabilitation after joint replacement, fracture surgery and other operations, progressed within your surgeon's protocol and restrictions.
Reconditioning after illness or intensive care
Rebuilding strength and mobility for people deconditioned by a long admission, including weakness acquired in intensive care. People typically have increased difficulty with their activity of daily living and transfers, and our physiotherapists use functional rehabilitation to improve their independence.
Walking and transfer retraining
Getting safely in and out of bed, up from chairs, to the bathroom and back, then progressively further. These are the movements we focus on, helping improve your functional capacity and independence at home.
Falls prevention in early recovery
The first weeks home carry elevated falls risk: reduced strength, new medications, unfamiliar limitations. Our physiotherapists focus on reconditioning and balance retraining to improve mobility and reduce falls risk.
Equipment and home setup advice
Assessment and prescription of walking aids and transfer equipment, plus practical advice on arranging the space to reduce risk during recovery.
Carer and family education
We provide carer training to ensure safe manual handling, keep your transfers safe, and give you the right support during mobility, if needed.

Why myNeuro after a hospital stay
We come to you during the hardest weeks
Early recovery is critical especially after a prolonged hospitalisation resulting in significant deconditioning, or after a surgery which has resulted in limitations to your movement. We will perform a comprehensive initial assessment to identify your baseline and create a plan of care to help rebuild your strength, functional capacity and mobility. Our goal is to help you become as independent as possible at home, including getting in and out of bed, sitting, standing, walking to the bathroom and lounge, and progressing further.
We assess the actual house
Small details like the height of your bed, the layout of your bathroom, or a step at the back door can all determine whether you're able to manage at home. We help improve your transfers and mobility so you can navigate these everyday realities and continue performing your activities of daily living.
Why recovery at home needs a plan
Hospital discharge shifts responsibility abruptly. In hospital, movement is supervised and support is constant. At home, the same person is expected to manage transfers, stairs and daily tasks largely alone, often at reduced capacity.
An individualised rehabilitation plan bridges that gap by rebuilding capacity in a deliberate order, starting with what is needed to be safe and progressing towards what the person wants to return to. How long that takes, and how complete recovery is, depends on the person, the procedure or illness, and their health beforehand. Our physiotherapist can give you a realistic view after assessment rather than a timeline guessed in advance.
Fees and funding
The initial consultation is free. Our rates are in accordance with regulatory standards, with no hidden fees and no travel fee within our service area.
Post-hospital rehabilitation is accessed through a range of arrangements including the Support at Home programme, NDIS funding, TAC where the admission followed a transport accident, private health insurance, Medicare care plans and private payment. Eligibility is determined by the relevant scheme. We can talk through how access usually works and liaise with your discharge planner or coordinator.
Frequently asked questions
Generally the sooner the better, and we prioritise recent discharges when scheduling. Contact us before the discharge date if you can, so the first visit is arranged rather than chased.
No referral is needed to contact us directly. Hospital teams, discharge planners and coordinators are also welcome to refer. Some funding routes have their own requirements, and we will tell you what applies.
Yes. We ask what restrictions and protocols your treating team has set and work within them. We do not override medical advice, and where something is unclear we will seek clarification rather than assume.
That is a common starting point and not a barrier. Our rehabilitation will begin at whatever the current capacity is, including bed-level and seated work where needed, and progress from there.
That depends on the procedure or illness, the person’s health beforehand, and how the admission went. Anyone offering a timeline before assessing is guessing. We will give you a realistic view once we have assessed.
Yes. Weakness acquired in intensive care is a recognised consequence of critical illness and often needs carefully paced reconditioning over an extended period.
Yes, we bring the rehabilitation equipment needed for the session. Nothing needs to be bought or arranged before we arrive.
Yes. We assess and prescribe walking aids and transfer equipment where appropriate, and give practical advice on arranging the space to reduce risk during recovery.
