    Neurological Rehabilitation Expertise

Rehabilitation after a transport accident, delivered at home

The Transport Accident Commission is the Victorian Government body that pays for treatment and support for people injured in transport accidents in Victoria. Physiotherapy is one of the services TAC clients most commonly use.

myNeuro provides that physiotherapy in your own home across Melbourne. For people whose injuries affect walking, driving or getting in and out of a car, a home-based service removes the part of treatment that is often the hardest. It also lets us assess the environment you are actually recovering in.

Our depth is in neurological and ageing rehabilitation, which is directly relevant where a transport accident has caused a brain injury, a spinal cord injury or another neurological consequence alongside orthopaedic injuries.

Rehabilitation after a transport accident, delivered at home

What we provide for TAC patients

    01

Rehabilitation after brain and spinal cord injury

Task-focused rehabilitation for the movement consequences of traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury, including weakness, coordination difficulty, altered tone and balance changes.

    02

    Post-orthopaedic and post-surgical rehabilitation

Rehabilitation after fractures, joint surgery and other accident-related operations, delivered within whatever restrictions your surgical team has set.

    03

    Walking and mobility retraining

Assessment and retraining of walking patterns. Our physiotherapists will identify what is contributing to your mobility being affected, and providing gait retraining to improve your ability to walk. Aids and orthoses are also assessed where they would help.

    04

    Strength and reconditioning

Getting out of bed, standing up from a chair, on and off the toilet, in and out of the shower and car. Transfers play a part of everyday living, and our physiotherapists are experts at retraining movement and helping improve your functional capacity.

    05

    Transfer and daily activity retraining

Getting in and out of bed, chairs, the shower and the car, plus the daily tasks that have become difficult since the accident.

    06

    Equipment prescription and carer education

Mobility aid and transfer device prescription where needed, and practical training for family members providing support at home.

    07

    Reporting for your recovery plan

We document assessment findings and progress in the form required to support your treatment and recovery planning, and we work alongside your case manager and treating team.

How TAC funding for physiotherapy generally works

TAC decides what it funds. myNeuro delivers the physiotherapy; we do not make funding or eligibility decisions and we cannot guarantee any outcome from TAC. What follows is general information based on TAC’s published policy, provided so you know what to expect.

Policy and fee schedules change. Check current requirements with TAC directly on 1300 654 329 or at tac.vic.gov.au, or ask your case manager. We are happy to talk through what usually applies and to correspond with TAC about ongoing treatment where that is appropriate.

    How it works

    Step 1

    Free initial consultation

    Comprehensive assessment

Assessment of the relevant impairments and how they affect your daily activities, including the demands of your home environment.

    Step 3

    Personalised rehabilitation plan

A plan built around your findings, your goals and your recovery priorities, documented to support your treatment and recovery planning.

    Why myNeuro for accident rehabilitation

    Neurological depth where it matters

Transport accidents frequently cause brain and spinal injuries whose rehabilitation needs are different from orthopaedic recovery. myNeuro was built around neurological rehabilitation, and being experts in retraining movement, we can help you become as independent as possible.

Goals set in the environment they belong to

A goal like getting in and out of bed, sitting to standing, walking around the home independently, are all part of your daily activities that we want to help you achieve. That is the strongest argument for home-based rehabilitation, as we are able to set functional goals that matter most to you.

    Hospital-informed practice

Our physiotherapists are experienced across the hospital pathway from ICU, acute, rehabilitation and movement disorder wards, to community settings at home and in-aged care. This informs a unique perspective on rehabilitation and ensures you are receiving quality care.

    We work with your team

Case managers, treating doctors, occupational therapists and family are all part of a serious recovery. We document and communicate accordingly.

    Frequently asked questions

Will TAC pay for my physiotherapy?

TAC decides that, not us. TAC’s published policy indicates physiotherapy can be payable for treatment related to your accident injuries, with no prior approval needed within the first 90 days where the relevant criteria apply, and approval required after that period. Confirm your own situation with TAC on 1300 654 329 or your case manager.

Do I need approval before my first session?

Within the first 90 days after the accident, TAC’s policy indicates approval is not required first where the criteria apply. After that, approval must be requested and granted before further services are delivered. We can talk you through what usually applies and correspond with TAC about ongoing treatment.

What do I need to have ready?
Generally your TAC claim number, the date of the accident, and your case manager’s name and contact details if one has been assigned. If you do not have a claim number yet, contact TAC on 1300 654 329.
    Do I need a doctor's referral?

You can contact myNeuro directly to arrange the initial assessment. Whether a referral is needed for your funding is a TAC matter, and requirements can differ depending on your claim and stage of recovery.

Can you treat me at home if I cannot drive?

Yes, that is the point of the service. We visit you across Melbourne, and there is no travel fee within our service area.

Can you help with a brain or spinal cord injury after an accident?
Yes. Neurological rehabilitation is myNeuro’s core focus, covering the movement, balance, coordination and functional consequences of brain and spinal cord injury.
How long will I need physiotherapy?

That depends on the injuries, the stage of recovery and your goals, and it is not something to guess at before assessment. It is also affected by what TAC approves, which is reviewed over time rather than set once.

What if my claim has not been approved yet?

Contact us anyway. We can arrange the free initial consultation and discuss your options, and TAC can advise on your claim directly on 1300 654 329.
